This reasoning stems from omega-6 fats found in these oils being converted by our bodies into arachidonic acid, which then produces chemicals called “lipid peroxidation.
Lipid peroxidation is a chemical reaction in which unstable polyunsaturated fats from seed (and fish) oils are broken down into reactive compounds such as aldehydes and lipofuscins. Researchers believe this process increases UV-induced skin damage by creating free radicals, which cause cell damage by increasing free radical numbers within skin tissue, leading to more damaged skin cells breaking down over time.
Oxidized polyunsaturated fats then enter the bloodstream, where they can cause widespread inflammation in your body. This inflammatory response has been linked to diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and cancer, as well as increasing your risk of sunburn by clogging pores and restricting oxygen supply to skin layers – leaving them more exposed to UV-induced damage than ever.

Before recently, many experts considered seed oils neutral or even healthy. Though higher in polyunsaturates than other options, most nutritionists considered this tradeoff acceptable as long as omega-3 fats were provided as balancers.
Unfortunately, industrial seed oils are making us sick rather than keeping us healthy. That is because they contain fats with imbalanced omega ratios (high in omega-6 and low in omega-3), are processed, highly oxidized, and highly processed, as well as high levels of pro-inflammatory omegas, causing widespread inflammation within the body.
Inflammation is a factor in numerous modern health concerns, from heart disease and depression to cancer and more. When our bodies become inflamed, pro-inflammatory substances are produced, which may contribute to skin issues like wrinkles, dryness, acne, and sunburn.
